The Category Manager is a highly motivated and analytically minded individual who plays a strategic role in growing the Coverstore business. Overseeing the full product development and sales lifecycle of assigned category(ies), this individual will collaborate cross-functionality to achieve sales targets, maintain profitability and ensure timely and successful product launches. As the category expert, the Category Manager will blend data insights with a deep understanding of the Coverstore customer to develop a clear, innovative, long-term growth plan for the business.

Duties and responsibilities
Below is a list of the primary job duties and responsibilities for the Category Manager. The responsibilities below are meant as a guide for core job functions but are by no means exhaustive.

Product Assortment & Strategic Planning
  • Develop and execute overall strategic plans for your category(ies) that align with the Coverstore and DC International ecommerce strategy and financial goals
  • Create assortment strategy to achieve sales growth targets for assigned category(ies)
  • Maintain and update assortment plan for category(ies)
  • Coordinate with Product Development team and factory partners to source materials, develop patterns, approve costing and ensure timely production of products
  • Propose new products and strategies to company leadership and establish medium and long-term product development roadmap
  • Identify ways to improve products by integrating consumer feedback
  • Maintain up-to-date expertise in merchandising industry and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans

Product Launch Coordination
  • Initiate and facilitate communication with all other departments including Marketing, IT, Graphic Design, Operations, and the factory to execute planned vision and hit set product launch milestones
  • Audit content and site merchandising to ensure accuracy and increase conversion rates
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop promotional strategies

Sales Analysis
  • Responsible for the category sales, margin and ensuring profitable growth of the category
  • Forecast, monitor and partner with Operations team to maintain inventory stock levels and maximize sales and profit
  • Identify and respond to opportunities, risks and market trends based on detailed analysis of historical data and competitive analysis
  • Partner with internal teams to identify and execute tactics to drive sales through promotional strategies, marketing campaigns, site merchandising improvements, etc.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field
  • Minimum 5+ years professional experience in a merchandising-related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other standard office equipment
  • Strong understanding of retail math (including intricacies of open to buy, gross margin), planning, inventory management, sales analysis, marketing, site merchandising and key financial measures
  • Deeply analytical and able to make data-driven critical business decisions and strong strategic and analytical thinking and ability to manipulate data sets, including advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Proficient in spelling and grammar
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Works well individually or in teams
  • Self-motivated; willingness to take initiative, take responsibility, and be proactive in tackling projects
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment where deadlines and priorities may change
  • Positive attitude with an eagerness to learn
